Introduction

We all have had eggs for dinner. Sometimes while making an omelette, you break open them on the floor itself while looking at your breakfast all ruined. At those times you wish that if your egg had the superpower to maybe bounce back just like a rubber ball, it would have saved him though you won't eat it again but still, a bouncing egg after all. Isn't it fun? How about some fun egg science experiment?

The entire science experiment is based on chemistry.

Here is how you can make one for yourself.

Apparatus

  1. A boiled egg which you do not intend to eat.
  2. One raw egg which is easily available in the market.
  3. Two jars probably transparent so that you can keep a check of the phenomenon.
  4. Vinegar, not a lot but at least that much so that both the egg can be covered by it or else the magic will fail.

Let's start then.

Procedure

Step 1

Firstly, we will take the egg and put them in two different jars.

Step 2

Now because we are having a bad memory so we will label one of the jars as “raw egg”.

Step 3

Time to pour the vinegar up to the brim so that both the egg get covered with the same.

Step 4

Be very sure that they do not come in direct contact with the sun so cover them and put them somewhere away from the sun for 48 hours. Give the chicks some lone time maybe.

Step 5

Though it is a long process still the magic begins within the first hour itself when the egg will start bubbling on the outside because of the chemical reaction of the calcium carbonate of the egg with the magical liquid.

Step 6

After several hours, you will see that the hard-boiled egg will actually start to sink because it is denser and the process of bubbling made a force which moved it downwards while the raw egg will start to float on the vinegar as it is hollow and contains only the liquid inside.

Step 7

The raw egg will start becoming big and bigger in size? Any guesses?
Some superpower? Exactly, the power of chemistry as the raw egg will absorb the vinegar and liquid flow from higher concentration to lower concentration.

Step 8

Now when you will think the work is done after leaving it for 48 hours and you will see that the shell came from the egg now and it was bouncy and transparent but not that much.

Result

      1. What went wrong, eh?  Well, we need to wait for one day while the process of bubbling occurs and then on the next day, you need to change the vinegar or else your egg would look like this if you try to make it bounce.

Now when you do it right and rinse the egg with cold water you will get the final output as this which would make you happy.

Conclusion

Look at this transparent wonder. Heavenly no?

Not only this, try to make it bounce and it will but do not try too hard as if you are breaking a coconut, or it will break just like a coconut does.

Well, you can have a little bit of your own fun too while you can add the colour to the vinegar solution to make the transparent egg as coloured one.

Notice that the raw egg is a bit bigger in size. We discussed that earlier because it absorbs vinegar and hence becomes bigger.

So that's how you can make a cool transparent bouncy egg of your own. Now when you know the tips and tricks, let's have some fun with science, shall we?
